Bone and joint diseases

Rheumatology is the branch of medicine focus on the diseases and ailments which involve the musculo-skeletal system wether acquired (also called functional or mechanical) or due to internal diseases which frequently include mal-function of the auto-immune system, known to the public as Rheumatism.

Rheumatologist is the physician who underwent special training in the diagnosis and non-surgical management of the diseases of the musculo-skeletal system including the joints, muscles, tendons and bones, making him the most qualified physician in diagnosing and treating this group of ailments, which differ from the Orthopedist whose expertise is in the surgical management of the musculo-skeletal diseases in addition to the accident and sport injuries.

The healing process is as much from the inside as it is from the outside and this is the approach we follow with every patient at Al Biraa. So unless you bring about the change from within it is very difficult to heal your body.

Early intervention is the best way to treat ailments like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis and joint pains. Unfortunately in most of the cases the problem has already set in by the time patients consult with our health-care professionals. We say “unfortunately” not because the situation cannot be improved but because so much damage can be controlled if the problem is tackled with at an earlier stage and you don’t have to needlessly go through so much physical as well as mental pain.

Once we begin the medication treatment our primary focus is on empowering the patient and educating him or her  about the disease and how to make positive lifestyle changes and take good care of the body signals.  This training may also include the other family members so that they can accommodate and assist the patient accordingly. The family members are also made aware of the precautions they can take in order to prevent the situation from deteriorating.

At Al Biraa Arthritis & Bone clinic we have highly acclaimed physicians and experts from all over the world who have gained tremendous experience in various world-class hospitals, clinics, and health care centres.  Our support staff also goes through comprehensive training so that you receive utmost care when you have put your faith in our scientific and moral abilities. Pain Management Program

Pain is a human’s unseen enemy. It is the one symptom which can destroy your life without having any outward, visible signs. If you bleed, have a broken bone or a seizure, your problem is seen and responded to quickly. Unfortunately when it comes to pain, not everyone takes it seriously, as they cannot see it. Yet this invisible beast can take control of all aspects of your life if not treated appropriately.
Once the pain has stayed long enough to be called chronic, three to six months, it starts to affect many angles of our existence. Lack of energy, irritability, depression, lack of sleep, decreased sexual desire, decline in functional ability, professional and economical loss, family problems, lack of leisure and recreational activities are among a long list of problems, which happen very commonly with chronic pain.
With this understanding in mind, it would be very difficult to treat such a complicated and multi-faceted problem with only one approach, and from one angle. Using a medication, doing some physical therapy, seeing a psychologist here and there, is not the best answer to this enemy, which is attacking from all angles at once. Combining all modalities which are related to different problems caused by pain, is the best way of treating chronic pain. This is called Multi-disciplinary pain management.
