The purpose of lips enhancement is ultimately increase the sexiness and reproductive appeal of the persons undergoing the procedure.

Plastic surgeon can increase the size or appeal of the lips by the use of hyaluronic acid based fillers, fat transfer to the lips, synthetic implants and surgical lift procedures.

There is no “single solution” for all types of lip enhancement requests.

The choice of treatment will vary according to the patient’s anatomy, goals, budget, time available and aesthetic taste.

From a surgeons perspective, age and anatomy pay a very important role in the options. A young patient ( less than 40) has needs that are different than one patient who is older.

Older patients present with age related skin and bone atrophy, wrinkling skin, smoking associated skin damage and lip changes, sagging cheeks, marionette lines, deep nasolabial folds and sagging chins. These associated changes should not be ignored when evaluating a request for lip augmentation. Simply augmenting the lip will not enhance the patients beauty or enhance their sexyness.

Younger patients often present with teeth alignment problems, underdeveloped chins and mandibles, and disproportionate nose size and shape.  All these things are also very important issues to consider in order to maximize the patients beauty and appeal.

Beauty significantly depends on symmetry and proportion.

Ignoring these issues will result in “duck lips”, “sausage lips” and distorted lips that have permanently lost the normal anatomic landmarks.

There are a variety of filler products available. I strongly discourage the use of any permanent filler offered since the problems they cause outweigh any potential benefit. Safe lip enhancement is the goal since complications are hard to hide.

Many times, if significant size increase is the goal, a step approach is preferable than a massive size increase at one sitting since blood flow problems to the lips may occur.
